OVERVIEW

Their choice, not yours.

A reading view your readers turn on themselves. Hides the furniture, widens the measure and remembers the choice, without deciding on anyone behalf.

Reader modes built into browsers work by guessing which part of the page is the article, and they guess wrong often enough to be unreliable on a designed site.

This lets the site say which element is the article, then offers the reader a switch. Nothing is hidden by default and the choice is stored in their own browser.

It is the only toggle on our site anybody uses.

WHAT YOU GET

A view the reader asks for.

Declared article element

The theme names the article element, so nothing has to be guessed and nothing important is hidden.

Adjustable measure

Three widths and three type sizes, remembered per reader in their own browser.

Opt-in only

Nothing changes until the reader asks. The site never decides that someone wants a stripped view.

Prints what is on screen

Printing from focus mode produces the focused view, not the full page with the furniture back.

FULL FEATURE LIST

The rest of the reading view.

Everything needed so a stripped view is a reader decision rather than a site one.

  • Article element declared by the theme
  • Three measures and three type sizes
  • Preference stored in the browser
  • Opt-in with no default change
  • Print matches the focused view
  • Keyboard shortcut to toggle
  • Respects the site dark palette
  • Leaves no trace when disabled
